In one of the biggest coaching bombshells of modern college football history, Lincoln Riley stunned the world and left the Oklahoma Sooners to become the head coach of the University of Southern California. The move was a bold choice for Riley, who had taken the Sooners to four Big 12 championships and three College Football Playoff appearances in his first two seasons with the program.
While no official reports have surfaced, rumors indicate that USC will pay him a $110 million deal with an unknown number of years. In addition, the Trojans are said to be buying both of his houses in Norman for $1 million and giving him unlimited use of their private jet.
Despite not winning a national title yet, Riley remains the highest paid college coach in the country by a wide margin. The only other coaches in the top five with a salary higher than his are David Shaw of Stanford and Dabo Swinney of Clemson, who both earn eight million dollars a year.
How Much is Oklahoma Paying Venables?
The University of Oklahoma has made a big investment in bringing Brent Venables back to Norman after he departed Clemson. The former assistant coach has a six-year, $43.5 million deal.
The contract includes a base salary of $375,000 and personal services compensation of $6,075,000 in the first year. It also calls for escalators in pay for a number of nifty accomplishments, such as leading the Sooners to their first Big 12 title or playing in a College Football Playoff semi-final game.
In addition to the base salary and escalators, OU’s new coaching staff will be paid more than $1 million per season, including offensive coordinator Jeff Lebby’s deal of $1.8 million with $100K added each February. Defensive coordinator Ted Roof has a three-year deal that starts at $1.1 million and increases to $2 million over the course of the next two years.
One of the most interesting parts of the deal is that if OU ever decided to fire Venables after just one year, it would cost the Sooners about $36 million. This is because there’s a mitigation clause that requires Venables to make ‘reasonable, continued and diligent efforts’ to find a job in coaching or other sports-related professions, which will reduce the amount owed on a ‘dollar-for-dollar’ basis.
Who Has the Highest Nil Deal?
One of the most significant changes to college sports in recent years is the emergence of name, image and likeness (NIL) deals. These deals allow collegiate athletes to earn money from their names, images, and likenesses through brand partnerships and endorsements.
In a relatively short time, NIL has become the hottest trend in college sports. While football and men’s basketball still lead the pack when it comes to the number of NIL deals and average compensation, women’s sports are quickly catching up.
The biggest NIL deal in the current era is likely Alabama quarterback Bryce Young. Having already secured a number of NIL deals, including Beats by Dre and NOBULL, Young will likely be one of the top college NIL earners over the next twelve months.
Another player whose NIL value is rising steadily is USC transfer Caleb Williams. With multiple deals signed since February, Williams has an estimated NIL value of $2.5 million over the next 12 months.
He sat behind his former Oklahoma coach and nemesis Caleb Rattler in the NIL valuation rankings before transferring to Southern California, but has quickly risen to the top. He also has a deal with Rhoback, a clothing company that creates items designed to be worn during outdoor pastimes.
Who is the Lowest Paid NCAa Coach?
While some coaches are paid seven figures, many others are earning less. USA Today Sports compiled a list of 122 head coaches who earn less than $750,000 a year, including five who are in their fourth contract year.
The lowest-paid coach in the nation is UTEP’s Eric Dimel, who earns $748,966 annually, according to USA Today. This ranked him 105th among 122 college coaches.
Other NCAa coaches, such as Texas A&M’s Jimbo Fisher and Michigan State’s Tom Tucker, receive supplemental pay that exceeds their base salaries. Their bonuses range from $1 million to $4 million, depending on how successful they are in their first three seasons.
Some coaches also get bonus incentives for winning buy games against other teams. UMass’ Matt McCall receives $2,500 for every win he has over a team that is ranked in KenPom’s Top 50 RPI.
Clemson’s Dabo Swinney is the highest paid head coach in the country, earning a 10-year deal worth $8 million a year. He has a strong track record of winning against Saban, including two conference championships and a national title.
Who is the Highest Paid Athlete in the World?
The highest paid athlete in the world is a soccer player by the name of Neymar. This Brazilian superstar has 282 million followers on his social media platforms and he’s one of the most popular players in the world.

Another footballer that made our list of the top sports stars in the world is Cristiano Ronaldo, a soccer star with his current club Real Madrid. He has won several awards and is a hugely popular soccer player.
He has made over $80 million this year alone, with LeBron James rounding out the top three with $72 million. This is largely thanks to his Nike contract which nets him a total of $28 million per year.
Who is the Highest Paid College Athlete?
The NCAA’s name, image and likeness (NIL) policy has allowed incoming and current college athletes to make money from endorsement deals, autograph signings, and other opportunities. Starting July 1, 2021, student-athletes can profit from their social media platforms, broker endorsement deals and use agents or representatives to make their name and image known.
So far, the top NIL earners have been Alabama quarterback Bryce Young and Ohio State quarterback C.J. Stroud, who have each made more than $1 million since the NIL rule started.
Jackson State quarterback Shedeur Sanders is also one of the highest NIL earning athletes. The son of NFL Hall of Famer Deion Sanders, he’s already landed a variety of notable endorsements, including Gatorade, PLB Sports, Actively Black, and Mercedes-Benz.
Another NIL earner is Auburn quarterback Bo Nix, who has partnered with 3 Kings Grooming, a family-owned hair product company that he announced at midnight. Fellow HBCU football player Malachi Moore has also signed a deal with Milo’s Sweet Tea.
Aside from the above, there are also LSU gymnast Olivia Dunne and Nebraska volleyball player Lexi Sun. Both athletes have signed contracts worth over $1 million, making them the highest paid female college athletes.
Who Pays Brent Venables Salary?
Venables became the new Oklahoma Sooners head coach after Lincoln Riley left to take a job at USC. He signed a six-year contract with the school worth $7 million in total annual compensation approved by regents.
The deal is one of the biggest in college football history, according to ESPN, and exceeds the contracts signed by three other first-time head coaches in recent weeks. Virginia Tech’s Brent Pry agreed to a six-year, $27.5 million deal, Texas Tech’s Joey McGuire to a six-year, $20.2 million contract and Washington State’s Jake Dickert to a five-year, $13.5 million deal.
He has the opportunity to earn a $400,000 bonus for winning a national championship, as well as $75,000 if he is named National Coach of the Year. He also would get an extra $25,000 if OU plays in a non-College Football Playoff bowl game.
Besides Venables, OU retains four assistants from Riley’s staff. Cale Gundy (inside receivers), Bill Bedenbaugh (offensive line), DeMarco Murray (running backs) and Joe Jon Finley (tight ends). OU also added several new staff members to Venables’s staff in December, including Jeff Lebby and Ted Roof.
How Much is Brent Venables Making at OU?
A week after Lincoln Riley shocked Oklahoma fans and the college football world by accepting a job at USC, Clemson defensive coordinator Brent Venables was hired to take his place. The move reunites the coach with a fan base and an athletic director who he hasn’t seen in a decade.
The former OU assistant turned down several head coaching opportunities to accept a six-year contract with the Tigers. He was paid $2.5 million per season as the Tigers’ defensive coordinator, which is one of the highest salaries for a coordinator in college football.
Those numbers are a huge raise from his days as the defensive coordinator at OU, but he still falls behind the top five head coaches in terms of total salary on this list.
He will earn $7 million the first year of his contract, and that will increase by $100,000 each February. He gets a retirement contribution and incentive bonuses in addition to his pay.
