OVERVIEW
Are you excited to help build a brand-new 3rd-person action game – expanding Bungie’s incredible gameplay into a new genre? Do you enjoy working directly on the game while also serving as a core leader of your teams?
As a Lead Gameplay Engineer on an incubation project, you will work closely with creatives and engineers to plan and execute technical paths to unlock new player experiences and empowering workflows. In the early project phases, you will work directly on the game’s prototypes, standing up our key features in collaboration with other disciplines. As the project grows, you will manage and lead 2-4 other gameplay engineers. Lastly, as part of a diverse company that prizes creativity, technical excellence, and work-life balance, you will work with a fun and inspirational team motivated to create awe-inspiring games.
RESPONSIBILITIES
- Build and maintain networked gameplay systems, workflows, and tools
- Directly manage and lead several engineers, providing support, technical mentorship, constructive feedback, and career development coaching
- Collaborate daily with a cross-disciplinary team to build amazing new experiences
- Effectively write technical documentation and communication, with the ability to summarize complex topics and achieve alignment across multiple teams
- Willingness and flexibility to learn new systems, step outside your tech comfort zone, and be highly versatile on a small prototyping team
REQUIRED SKILLS
- Ability to communicate with customers of different technical and non-technical backgrounds to help them navigate technology and achieve their goals
- Experience leading (direct management, mentoring, or guiding) engineers
- Professional experience as a software engineer in game development who has built networked real-time action gameplay systems (ex. input layers, prediction and collision models, character controllers, etc.)
- Experience solving game problems rooted in math (ex. physics simulations, animation IK, character controllers)
- Ability to independently build and maintain production quality C++ code
NICE-TO-HAVE SKILLS
- Unreal Engine experience (for prototyping)
- Experience working on mobile platforms
- 3rd-person combat experience

- Annual Paid Time Off (PTO) and/or Sabbatical (SAB) based on position level
- L13-L15: 20 PTO days
- L16-L17: 15 PTO days / 5 SAB days
- L18+: 10 PTO days / 10 SAB days
- 10 paid Floating Days annually, prorated in the first year of employment based on start date
